The ocean is a vast unrealized resource that can be utilized in many different ways. While it has always been observed that the oceans contain sources of power, harnessing it for our use has always been an issue. We are looking at the specific aspect of the use of tidal currents to generate electricity as a renewable natural resource. This project is multi-faceted and has spin off technologies for ship propulsion to ocean current power generation. The first goal of the project is to develop a standard series turbine to which new innovations can be compared. We are working on converting MIT's OpenProp to be optimized for turbine design. We are also working on developing test platforms to verify and test the design of new turbines.
